Food Market
The Food_Markt takes place once a month at the AStA and is open to all students at the University of Cologne.
Here you can take home products affected by food waste without prior registration—and without needing a bag.
What can you expect at the Food_Markt?
At the Food Market, you can get a variety of food items. The selection often includes fruit, vegetables, and various dry goods. Please note that no refrigerated products can be distributed. The best part: everything is free for you. Participation is open to all enrolled students at the University of Cologne.
How to participate:
Simply register using this form. After registering, you will receive an email with the dates of the next Food Market. Once you are registered, just come by. A one-time registration is sufficient, but you can also drop by without registering at all.
Please note: Please bring your own bag, as we do not provide bags for carrying your purchases.
FAQ
Is the same food always distributed?
No, the selection at Food_Markt varies. Since we cannot predict which foods will need to be rescued and what suppliers will deliver to us, we unfortunately cannot tell you in advance what you will find at Food_Markt. However, you can rest assured that we do not distribute food that needs to be refrigerated (dairy products, meat, fish, frozen food). While our Food_Bags only contain packaged and non-perishable food, we often also offer fruit and/or vegetables at our Food_Market.
Are the products suitable for specific diets?
All products found in your Food_Bag are vegan and generally organic. Unfortunately, we are unable to accommodate dietary restrictions such as gluten or histamine intolerance, as our product range does not allow for this. The products available at the Food_Market are generally all vegetarian at minimum.
How often can I participate in the Food_Market?
You can participate in the Food_Markt as often as you like. The only important thing is that you are enrolled as a student at the University of Cologne. You can select on the registration form whether you would like to participate once or regularly.
A product was no longer edible. What should I do?
If you have not yet consumed the product, please dispose of it. The purpose of food saving is not to expose yourself to food poisoning. In this case, it is perfectly acceptable to discard the product. If you have already consumed some of the product and are feeling unwell, consult a physician immediately, such as your family doctor. They will be able to treat you in this case.
